Let's travel - Corfu part 2 - Corfu city/ Korfu część 2 - Paleokastritsa

"Nobody is that old

so that he cannot learn something new "

The day after our arrival in Corfu, we decided to go to one of the most beautiful places on the island - Paleokastritsa. To get there by public transport, you just have to take one of the popular buses on the island - the Green Bus line (one-way ticket costs EUR 2.30). The journey to the Paleokastritsa takes about 50 minutes via an extremely picturesque route. The village itself is surrounded on the one hand by the Ionian Sea and on the other by small mountains. Here you will find the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Corfu. There are several of them and each of them is really awesome.

Our first point on the list of places to visit was the Orthodox monastery, charmingly situated on a tiny mountain, with unforgettable views. Around the monastery we met quite a few cats and dogs playing together. On the way back, we deviated onto a less traveled path and found a group of donkeys there, which I personally associate with Greece. After visiting the area of the monastery and a small museum located right next to it, we went down to the town to find the so-called Donkey path, a mountain trail leading to a tiny Greek village. The trail is located between olive groves and with each successive tier you can admire truly breathtaking views from above, moreover, you will find out for yourself by looking at the photos :)

Let's travel - Greece - Corfu part 1 - Corfu city / Grecja- Korfu część 1 - Korfu city

"Światło w Grecji nie jest czymś zewnętrznym,

czymś, na co się patrzy."

/Irving Stone/

"Light in Greece is not something external,

something to be looked at. "

/ Irving Stone /

Zajęło nam to z szukaniem go około 40 minut.

A Grecy to niezwykle otwarty i pomocny naród.

This year, I definitely catching up for travels in the previous two years, in which most of us were thwarted by a pandemic. As the destination of my April trip, I chose Greece, and more specifically the island of Corfu surrounded by the Ionian Sea. As in the case of Belgium, I took advantage of the offer of low-cost airlines (tickets were available for PLN 78 both ways). So it will be a sin not to take advantage of the opportunity and that's why I decided to make a May long weekend for a change at the end of April :-)

We arrived in Corfu very late in the evening, and as it is a relatively small island, it has only one airport, which is close to the main city of Corfu. It was difficult for us to find any public transport at such a late hour, so we decided to reach our rented accommodation on foot. It took us about 40 minutes to search for it. I rented this apartment because of its good location (close to the center of the old town and close to the Green Bus station, from which buses depart to various places on the island) and also a very affordable price :-)

The city of Corfu itself reminds me of my beloved Italy with its climate. And the Greeks are an extremely open and helpful nation. I was a bit worried if I would find a Greek tavern where I would eat something vegetarian, but it turned out to be no problem. Especially for me, they made delicious grilled vegetables in a very unusual honey-based sauce. They were delicious.

The city of Corfu itself certainly impresses with its old town and beautiful views from the sea side of the city. It is relatively small and you can easily visit it in one day. It is worth getting lost in its streets and nooks, because you can discover many interesting places there. I also recommend taking a look at the local market in the center where you can buy fresh vegetables and fruits and also local products such as honey or jam from kumquats.
