Culture/Kultura - Books June 2020/ Czerwiec 2020

"A book is a dream
that you hold in your hand"
Neil Gaiman

"Książka jest marzeniem,
które trzymasz w swoich rękach"
Neil Gaiman

Mam nadzieję, że chociaż część z Was znajdzie wśród nich coś dla siebie :-) No to zaczynamy :-)

Although June was a very intensive month this year, I was able to read a few books during the breaks between work and rehearsals . I hope that at least some of you will find something for themselves among them I have read :-) Let's start :-)

1. Steve Cavanagh "Obrona"/ "The Defence" 8/10

" The Defence" is the first in a series of legal thrillers, whose main character is Eddie Flynn. Once a professional fraud, today an attorney who uses his old skills in the courtroom. We meet him in a rather unusual situation, during which someone in a public toilet puts a gun to his back, placing an ultimatum that either during the trial he will defend the mafia boss or something wrong will happen to his daughter. This book is full of twists and turns, and its additional advantage is the hero created by the author, who is dodgy and who has sense of humor.

2. Steve Cavanagh "Zarzut"/ "The Plea"  9/10

"The Plea" is the second volume of the series with lawyer Eddie Flynn in the lead role, which this time has to face the defense of the millionaire and creator of one of the most popular social networks - David Child, accused of murdering his beloved one. Eddie, pushed by FBI agents, is expected to obtain a confession to his client, otherwise his wife and mother of his daughter, who he still loves, will be charged with money laundering by the Harland & Sinton company for which she works. Even worse, Mr. Child says with tears in his eyes that he is innocent. A very well-constructed legal thriller that keeps the reader in suspense until the end. I highly recommend, above all, fans of the genre.

3. Piotr Rozmus "Kompleks Boga" 9/10

Four seemingly unconnected people are kidnapped at certain intervals and placed in metal cages by an individual who knows their dirty secrets perfectly. None of them, however, really knows why he/she find himself/herself in the basement room, where next to them there is a box with various tools and a hook hangs from the ceiling ...
In "God's Complex" the psychological theme is well portrayed during which we learn more about the history and choices of each of the victims. The book is extremely surprising and keeps the reader in suspense from the first to the last page.

Marek Skalski is the owner of a huge company in Oława who is urgently looking for an intern. His wife Ewa Skalska knows exactly which of the candidates has the best chance for this position. She also knows that at some point in her internship her beloved husband will cheat on her with the intern.
Klaudia Neter is a young, beautiful girl who wants to open a gym with her friend. Unfortunately, she has not enough money to do it, which is why when there appears a very well-paid internship offer, she would like to receive it.
Meanwhile, the body of one of Skalski's former interns is found in Oława.
"Intern" is a masterfully constructed psychological thriller with a very surprising ending.

Culture/Kultura - Books February 2020/książki Luty 2020

“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
― Ernest Hemingway

“Nie ma przyjaciela tak lojalnego jak książka.”

― Ernest Hemingway

I have to admit that if we are talking about the number of read books this year has started quite well.
The second month of the year is behind our backs and with it another portion of read items. My discovery this year is certainly young, Polish writer Jakub Szamałek, whose books from the series Hidden Network I absorbed at a rapid speed. If you want to find out what else I read except the above item, I invite you for a quick summary :-)

1/2 JAKUB SZAMAŁAEK "COKOLWIEK WYBIERZESZ'' (SERIA UKRYTA SIEĆ TOM I)

The first two items are books from the Hidden Network series that I mentioned above, whose main character is a young journalist of the entertainment portal Julita Wójcicka. In the first part of the series, she investigates the story of the death of one of Polish celebrities, which is the tip of the iceberg of a much more serious international scandal. The second part is also an interesting continuation and also the development of threads from the first part. Interestingly written characters, intriguing story and very skillfully introduced issues of the dark side of technology and the Internet. After reading this book, you look at your computer, tablet and phone from a slightly different perspective. I am looking forward to the last volume of the trilogy.

3/4 REMIGIUSZ MRÓZ -  "UMORZENIE", "WYROK" ( SERIA CHYŁKA TOM 9 ORAZ 10) 8/10

Dalsze losy prawników słynnej kancelarii Żelazny & Mcavay obfitują w kolejne interesujące do rozwiązania sprawy.

The further fate of lawyers from the famous Żelazny & Mcavay law firm abounds in further interesting cases to solve. In volume IX, they decide to defend a man who is accused of murdering his entire family. Whereas in volume X a pair of lawyers sets off to Poznań where they defend a young boy accused of brutally murdering his colleagues. The game is at a very high rate (I will not reveal any more, I don't want to make a spoiler). I rate both books very positively. And I liked it much more than the previous part.

5. S.L.GREY "APARTAMENT "/ "THE APARTMENT" 5/10

The young couple - Mark and Steph - after the trauma of breaking into their home,  they decide to forget about the unpleasant experiences on a trip to Paris, where they take part in the holiday housing exchange project. Unfortunately, the dream holiday is gradually turning into a nightmare.
The book had a lot of potential, unfortunately, despite a very good climate start, the further part of the book is more disappointed.

6. B.A.PARIS " POZWÓL MI WRÓCIĆ"/ "BRING ME BACK" 6/10

Fin and Layla - a young couple in love returns from a trip to France. On the way back, they stop at the car park. When Fin returns from the toilet, it turns out that Layla has disappeared somewhere. Interviewed by the police, he decides to tell them only part of the truth.
Many years after this event, Fin decides to give himself another chance for love, and thus becomes associated with the older sister of his girlfriend who was missing years ago. Meanwhile, one day, he gets a very telling message that Layla is alive.
The book is read in spite of a somewhat stretched though not obvious ending in a quite pleasant way.

7. SEBASTIAN FITZEK "ŁAMCZ DUSZ"/ "THE SOUL BREAKER"7/10

Interesujący, trzymający w napięciu, ciekawie skomponowany thriller psychologiczny, w którym autor za pomocą nieoczywistych, dających do myślenia zagadek podsuwa nam rozwiązania.

Three young and beautiful women are disappeared without a trace. Found though they are alive, they are like dead. Each of them holds a card with mysterious words in their hands. Behind these incidents stands the "Breaker of Souls", which the press once again hits in a luxury psychiatric clinic, cut off from the world by a snowstorm, to which a young man suffering from amnesia had previously been transported.
An interesting, suspenseful, interestingly composed psychological thriller in which the author, using unobvious, thought-provoking puzzles, gives us solutions.

8. SONIA BELASCO "MÓW DO MNIE"/"SPEAK OF ME AS I AM"6/10

The book tells the story of two young people Damon, who lost his best friend and Melanie, who is struggling with the emptiness of his mother who died of cancer. This is a typical youth movement that deals with the extremely difficult topic of losing loved ones at a very young age. History is read with pleasure but something is missing.

9. MIECZYSŁAWA GORZKA "MARTWY SAD" 8/10

Nocą komisarz Marcin Zakrzewski zostaje wezwany do sprawy morderstwa. Sprawa stopniowo zaczyna przybierać coraz ciekawszy obrót zmuszając głównego bohatera do powrotu w przeszłość.

At night, Commissioner Marcin Zakrzewski is called to a murder case. During the pursuit of the perpetrator, he hears the words spoken by him, reminding him of his twin brother missing in childhood and a certain orchard next to the church. The case gradually begins to take an increasingly interesting turn, forcing the main character to return to the past.

"Let us remember:

can change the world."
-Malala Yousafai

"Zapamiętaj:
jedna książka, jedno pióro,
jedno dziecko i jeden nauczyciel
mogą zmienić świat"
-Malala Yousafai

Another month this time full of Christmas preparations and Christmas atmosphere and also another portion of books that I read. I hope that among them each of you will find something for yourself.

1. Remigiusz Mróz - Kontratyp

Mróz to jeden z najpopularniejszych pisarzy młodego pokolenia.

Mróz is one of the most popular polish writers of the young generation. "Kontratyp" is his latest novel from the series Chyłka -  and it's talking about further adventures of two Warsaw attorneys. This time Chyłka is forced to defend one of the participants of the expedition to Annapurna. The book still, in my opinion, keeps the level though the thread of sending Joanna Ch. for this eight-thousands height mountain is slightly exaggerated. However the whole book I read very quick.

This book is a multifaceted image that merges into one whole. There is no lack here of such topics as pedophilia, murder, betrayal, human trafficking or kidnapping. Nobody is perfect here. Everyone has some flaws, even those who are on the right side of the law. Dark, gloomy climate makes that I read this book very quickly and for sure this is a position that stands out on the Polish thriller books market.

3. Agnieszka Pietrzyk "Porwanie"

Struggling with financial problems, Seweryn hit on the idea to kidnap his own young little son, Tymek. Things start to get complicated when the boy is really kidnapped by someone else. Who cares so much about doing it? Keeping in suspense and full of twists and turns, the book will delight fans of this genre. I highly recommend.

4. Chris McGeorge " Zgadnij kto " / Guess who

Polecam.

11-year-old Morgan Sheppard solved the mystery of the death of his math teacher. This is the beginning of his path to fame.

25 years later, he wakes up, chained to a bed with five other people and a body in a bathtub in a hotel's room. He has three hours to find the killer among them. In order to save himself and his companions, he must go back to his childhood to find clues to solve the riddle. I would recommend.

Lifestyle - books - November

"“I cannot live without books.”
― Thomas Jefferson

“Nie potrafię życ bez książek.”

― Thomas Jefferson

Like every month ( at least lately here) I am coming back to you with list of books that I read in November.  Beacuse similar like Thomas Jefferson I can't live without books.

1. Tomasz Michniewicz "Chrobot"

The latest work of the traveler and reporter Tomasz Michniewicz is an attempt to close the world in one book. It is a story about the lives of seven people from different points of the globe: Finland, USA, Colombia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Japan and India. A story told from the moment of their early childhood to the present day. Kind of ordinary people, but can you say that any life is ordinary. During reading we know closer  story about their fate, worries, ways of thinking shaped by the realities in which they came into the world. There are seven of them, but the author makes, that  apart from the main characters described by him on the pages of the book, also is one more - the quiet eighth, which we all are  with our life story.
This book teaches humility, shows a completely different world, part of which we are. It evokes a whole range of emotions from emotion through rebellion and anger. It changes our point of view and thinking. It is like a good teacher

2. Martina Cole "Uwikłani"

Do przeczytania książki zachęcił  mnie mini serial "The take" ( zrobiony na motywach tej powieści) który bardzo mi się podobał. Lubię wątki mafijno - gangsterskie zatem z chęcią przystąpiłam do lektury.

To read the book I was encouraged by the mini-series "The take" (made on the motifs of this novel) which I liked a lot. I am fan of mafia-gangster topics so I happily started to read them. It tells the story of the Jackson family, headed by two cousins - Freddy and Jimmy Jackson. Within a few years, we get to know their actions in the underground world of crime and as well as we receive a knowledge about the tragic backstage of their private lives. The idea of the book story is in  my opinion very positive- unfortunately, if we consider  the writing language used by the author it’s rather wrote in very bad style of writing. Despite this disadvantage, the book was quite pleasant to read.

3. Remigiusz Mróz " Nieodnaleziona"

Ciekawy thriller psychologiczny.

An interesting psychological thriller. Damian Werner has just proposed to his girlfriend Ewa, who shortly after this event, disappears as a result of tragic circumstances. One day, after ten years from this happening, his best friend shows him on one of the social media networks a photo of Damian's beloved one taken during the concert of his favorite rock band. Then, with the help of a professional detective agency, they both try to explain what happened to the missing girl.

This book is the story of three friends - each of them has its own secrets which, thanks to the mysterious patient of one of them have seen the light of day. A very interesting plot that leads to an appealing finale. The book should please every fan of psychological intrigues.

5. Kasia Nosowska " A ja żem jej powiedziała"

Kasia Nosowska - vocalist of the polish rock band Hey this time presents herself  in a new role. And she does it very well. Full of humor, irony, cleverly "dressed up" thoughts in Kasia's style, the book will surely delight her fans. For thought, but not only ...

6. Collen Hoover " Wszystkie nasze obietnice"

Książka ta opowiada historię pewnego małzeństwa Quinn i Grahama. Polecam fanom gatunku.

This book tells the story of a couple of marriage : Quinn and Graham. It is divided into two parts: now and then. We know step by step up to the present day the story of their unbelievable relationship. A simple, but  interesting and very moving story makes that I read  this book very fast . I recommend this position all fans of this genre.

Lifestyle - Culture - Books July 2018 - Książki Lipiec 2018

"
Czytanie dobrych książek jest niczym rozmowa
z najwspanialszymi ludźmi minionych czasów"

"Reading good books is like a conversation
with the greatest people from past times"

Czytanie jest dla mnie jak oddychanie. Robię to odkąd pamiętam.

***

Reading is like breathing to me. I've been doing it since I can remember. At first, when I was a kid and I still could not do it by myself, my parents read to me. Initially, through different kind of fairy tales, they gradually introduced me to the magical world of books. When I was a girl, I loved reading fictional stories taken from the fictional life of other girls and boys. Together with them, I experienced different types of adventures.
With age, I started to choose various books from totally different areas of literature. Today the books that I love to read the most are thrillers and crime novels, but I am still happy to reach for different kind of books such like a dramas, biographies or scientific and philosophical works.
Below I present to you my July list of read books.
In the month of July, I managed to read nine books, of which seven are coming from the Chyłka cykle written by the recently popular in Poland Remigiusz Mróz.

Książki przeczytane w miesiącu lipcu/
the books that I have read in July:

Pozycje 1-7

I read this series during two weeks. The main character Joanna Chyłka- is an attorney at one of Warsaw's prestigious law offices - Żelazy & McVay. Each of the volumes is talking  generally about  separate matter, however, some elements of all books have a strong connection with others and this is the reason why is much better to read this book one by one where they have been published. One of the most interesting elements of this series is the relationship between Joanna Chyłka and her apprentice Konrad "Zordon" Oryński. The series is definitely is worth to reading.

Pozycja 8
Dario Correnti „Zmowa”/ Dario Correnti „ Nostalgia del sangue”

Czytam sporo thrillerów i kryminałów a wśród nich właśnie ta pozycja napisana przez
Włocha jakoś nie do końca przypadła mi do gustu. Główni bohaterowie książki to para
dziennikarzy śledczych – on Marco Besana od kilkunastu lat w zawodzie, ona –Ilaria Piatti
debiutująca  stażystka, lecz bardzo inteligentna stażystka. Razem poświęcają się pracy
pisząc artykuły i zdobywając coraz to nowe materiały dotyczące mordercy

I read a lot of thrillers and crime novels, among them this one written by
The Italian writter Dario Correnti it’s not to the end my cup of tea. The main characters
of the book are a couple investigative journalists - he - Marco Besana who is working in
this brunch since many years and  she -Ilaria Piatti a debuting, but a very intelligent trainee.
Together, they sacrifice themselves to writing articles and gaining more and more new
materials about the murderer of women - the cannibal, whom crimes are almost the same
like those that took place a few decades earlier. The idea for a book is quite interesting,
however, the characters and style of writing of the author are something that I don’t like
to the end about this book.

 Pozycja 9
Karen McManus „ Jedno z nas kłamie”/ Karen McManus „ One of us is lying”

czasie  jedno z nich ulega śmiertelnemu zatruciu.

Five high school students: Simon, Nate, Cooper, Addy and Bronwyn guarded by one of
the teachers must stay as a punishment after classes at school. While they are serving their
punishment, outside near to the school  took a place a car accident. At the same time one of
them died cause of poisoning. There remains the question and the answer - who is the killer.
Each of them, as we can see during  reading, has a reason to kill. I think that many of you
who decide to reach for this book position will be surprise  with its ending.

Pozycja 10

Główny bohater – Sławciu – to typ  mięśniaka żyjącego
nieco poza granicami prawa. Otoczony luksusem, traktujący wszystkich dookoła
( zwłaszcza kobiety) w sposób powierzchowny i płytki zdecydowanie nie wzbudził
mojej sympatii. Książka napisana w sposób chaotyczny. Alkoholowo-narkotykowe
rozważania filozoficzne głównego bohatera specjalnie też nic w nasze życie nie znoszą.
Ta książka zatem moim zdaniem  to pozycja dla wytrwałych.

The author who wrote this book probably wanted to shock his readers - in a way
he even succeeded. This book contains quite a lot of brutal descriptions and vulgar
language. The main character - Sławciu - is a type of a over muscle man who lives in
some way outside the borders of the law. Surrounded by luxury, treating everyone
around (especially women) in a superficial and shallow way; definitely did not grab
my sympathy. The book is written in a very chaotic way. Alcohol-drug philosophical
considerations of the main character also they don’t bring nothing new to our lives.
This book, therefore, in my opinion is a position for the persistent readers.
